James Asher - Tigers in the Remix
Longtime favorite at Just Dance with albums such as Feet in the Soil, multi-instrumentalist and producer James Asher moved his exploration of world music to India with the acclaimed album Tigers in the Raj. Over 20 musicians and vocalists created this masterly percussive project with a backdrop of Indian ragas, the distinctive sound of Indian classical music. Tigers of the Raj seemed like a unusual candidate for a remix album, since it already was an infectious groove fest. But Asher invited a stellar crew of UK DJs and remixers to delve into the mysteries of his East Indian fusion recording. The results are mixtures of hip hop, drum and bass, dub, and other sub genres of house and dance music. It's all very solid and well-done. World music fans who have been searching for a dance/fusion album would be well-served to consider Tigers of the Remix.
Café Del Mar - Volume 9
Travel to Mediterranean Sea, towards the West coast of Ibiza and you will find immaculate beaches and of course the infamous bar, Café Del Mar. Since 1994, Café Del Mar is also a CD series of chillout and ambient compilations that strives to capture the essence of its location and particularly its renowned and spectacular sunsets. Because it is now released on its own label, this volume seems to have left the eclectic spirit of previous one behind as well as the need to add big name artists to sell more albums. What you have here are thirteen tracks of blissful chillout music that do not deviate from one to the next, thus creating a more homogeneous sound than the previous outings. If you would like to extend the last rays of sunshine of the summer, have a mellow dance session or just listen to blissful ambience music with the occasional trippy beats, look for Café Del Mar volume 9.
