The Universe Within by Gwen Randall-Young
Where does our intelligence come from? Commonly, we think of it as
an inherited trait, supplemented by learning and experience. However,
there is much more to intelligence than that. There is an intelligence,
which both encompasses, and expands beyond the above description.
The great sages and learned masters did not get their inspiration
from others: it did not come from their parents, or from teachers.
There was an intuitive knowing. It may have been attributed to Buddha,
God, Allah, and may have been called the Truth, the Way, or the Tao.
The elements of this knowing are remarkably similar, considering that
their emergence occurred in vastly different geographical areas, and
perhaps thousands of years apart. Much of that wisdom feels as clear
and true today, even though it was written during eras in which the
human population was much more primitive. It would seem that some
individuals had access to higher wisdom, which has resonated with
something in generation after generation of humans.
It seems as though there is a cosmic or divine intelligence, and our
most respected spiritual leaders have been those who are able to tap
into it. Scientists are now able to measure energy fields around humans:
electromagnetic fields that radiate as much as fifteen feet beyond
the body. The entire universe is comprised of energy vibrations. We
are vibrational generators living in a vast field of energy and information
— energy and information that constantly flows from the field
to us and from us out into the field.
Our consciousness may be like a telescope. At lower powers we see
only what is in front of us, and may think that is all there is. At
higher powers, we may see things that are invisible to others. Whatever
is — is, whether we are aware of it or not. However, because
we are a part of that larger system — not separate from it —
on some level we may feel an internal resonance, an alignment when
another human speaks or writes from a higher level of consciousness.
Because we may not have developed our own higher powers of consciousness,
we think we must look outside of ourselves — to teachers or
leaders — to provide us with the wisdom we seek. This is okay
during the process of awakening, as we learn to expand our own consciousness.
As a way of life, however, it renders us an understudy, never experiencing
the exhilaration of our own direct connection to that higher source,
to the divine, to cosmic intelligence. Do not think for a moment that
access to higher wisdom, to universal intelligence, is reserved for
a select few. It is there for all of us. We do need, however, to establish
a connection.
The first prerequisites are trust and willingness. We must trust that
we are just as worthy as anyone else to access this intelligence,
and we must be willing to go into stillness. Only when we have learned
to truly quiet the mind and open the heart is our apparatus capable
of decoding the intelligence that pulses, like a regular heartbeat,
throughout our universe — in, around and through us. When we
are disconnected, personally or globally, from this intelligence,
chaos results.
The world today certainly could use an infusion of intelligence. Perhaps
if, like blood donors during a disaster, we all hook ourselves up
and draw as much deep wisdom into our lives as possible, the global
organism will begin to heal.
