Showcasing sustainable alternatives for business and development
Since its inception in 1990 in Vancouver, Globe has become a vital showcase for innovative environmental technologies, expertise and management.
The Globe series of conferences has become the nexus for global networking and leadership on the business of the environment. Biennially, thousands of environmental business leaders, corporate environmental managers and sustainability practitioners gather in Vancouver to explore the mutually inclusive goals of corporate sustainability, business growth, energy solutions, responsible investment and urban development. More than 10,000 participants, 2,000 conference delegates and 400 exhibitors representing 75 countries are expected at this year's event.
Globe 2006 focuses on four themes:
- Finance and sustainability
- Corporate sustainability
- Energy and environment
- Building better cities
and includes three exciting plenary sessions:
Corporate sustainability and finance plenary
Leading the sustainable economy, March 29, 8:30-10 am
Globe 2006 opens with a gathering of global leaders from government and industry to share insights on how social and environmental values influence today's sustainable economy. The opening plenary will highlight recent changes in the financial structure of the new sustainable economy and explore how corporations and government are supporting the sustainability revolution.
Energy and environment plenary
Transitioning to a sustainable economy, March 30, 8:30-10 am
Over the coming decade, the transition to alternative energy and energy-efficient technologies for our offices, homes and transportation systems will accelerate. Facing oil wars and economic collapses, many firms are ready to plug into tomorrow's new energy infrastructure today. The question remains: which interim and long-term strategies are forward-looking enterprises adopting?
Urban plenary
Bridging to the UN-Habitat World Urban Forum, March 31, 1:30-3 pm
In recognition of Vancouver's gear-up for the forum this June, this plenary brings together urban leaders shaping our future cities, and also celebrates the social, economic and environmental advances taking place in urban centres around the world.
Globe 2006 is produced by the Globe Foundation of Canada. The conference runs from March 29-31 at the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre.
